Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of Bujabanha-tang(Fuzibanxia-tang) water extract on cultured mouse spinal motor neuron which was inhibited by xanthine oxidase/hypoxanthine(XO/HX)
Methods and Matrials: induced cytotoxicity, cell viability by the MTT and NR assay and PKC activity, cAMP assay examined after the cultured mouse spinal motor neurons were pre-incubated with various concentrations of Bujabanha-tang(Fuzibanxia-tang) water extract for 3 hours prior to exposure of XO/HX
Result:
1. XO/HX, a oxygen radical, decreased the survival rate of the cultured mouse spinal motor neuron cells on NR assay and MTT assay.
2. Bujabanha-tang(Fuzibanxia-tang) have decreasing efficacy of PKC activity increased by XO/HX in cultured mouse spinal motor neuron.
3. Bujabanha-tang(Fuzibanxia-tang) have decreasing efficacy of cAMP amout increased by XO/HX in cultured mouse spinal motor neurons.
Conclusions: Bujabanha-tang(Fuzibanxiatang) has marked efficacy as a neuroprotection for the damages caused by XO/HX-mediated oxidative process.
